1 Overview

During Monday’s class I will hold a short QA session on the assigned topic and then open the in-class multiple-choice (MC) quiz (taken on Canvas). After the quiz, you will select three (3) quiz items you answered and convert each into a short-answer (SA) question that requires a concise conceptual response.

Work individually, then do a 5-minute pair-lite polish with one classmate. Post your three converted SA questions to the Canvas Discussion titled “Exit Tickets — Week X” by the Monday deadline below. For each converted question, provide a brief expected answer — one concise sentence is recommended. Keep answers focused on the main concept (not long paragraphs). By Wednesday before class, you must read at least one peer’s post and leave one constructive comment (feedback) to each of the three questions posted by the selected classmate.

2 Learning objectives targeted

  • Move from recognition (MC) to production (short-answer) by articulating the key idea behind a question.
  • Practice concise phrasing of conceptual answers.
  • Give and receive brief formative feedback.

3 Deadlines

  • Post your three converted questions + expected answers: due by end of Monday class.
  • Leave one constructive comment on a peer’s post: due by Wednesday before class.

4 Deliverables (what to submit)

  • One Discussion post including:
    • Three converted short-answer questions (each numbered)
    • A brief expected answer for each question — one concise sentence is recommended.
  • One reply to any one peer’s post with constructive feedback (clarity, scope, suggestion).

5 Student submission template

Paste this into your Discussion post (or use as your post body):

1) Question (converted short-answer):
[Write the short-answer question here — 1 sentence]

   Answer (one short sentence recommended):
   [Concise answer here]

2) Question (converted short-answer):
[Write the short-answer question here — 1 sentence]

   Answer (one short sentence recommended):
   [Concise answer here]

3) Question (converted short-answer):
[Write the short-answer question here — 1 sentence]

   Answer (one short sentence recommended):
   [Concise answer here]

6 Peer feedback guidance (what to write in your reply)

For each of your classmate’s three questions, provide:

  • One specific positive (e.g., “Good: Question 2 focuses on explaining mechanisms rather than just recall.”)
  • One actionable suggestion (e.g., “Consider being more specific: instead of ‘timing,’ clarify whether you mean reaction time or movement duration.”)
  • Brief comment on the answer quality (e.g., “Your answer captures the key concept but could mention the specific brain region involved.”)

Keep your feedback constructive and focused on helping your classmate improve their question clarity and conceptual focus.

7 Example (quick)

Original MCQ (stem): Which brain area is most associated with voluntary movement planning?

Converted SA: Explain why the premotor cortex is important for planning voluntary movements.

Expected answer: Premotor cortex organizes movement sequences and prepares motor plans before execution.

8 Grading rubric (5 points total)

  • 5 pts — Three clear, concept-focused SA questions; each includes a concise answer (one sentence recommended); posted on time; peer feedback posted by deadline.
  • 3 pts — Two good SA questions or three with unclear/incomplete answers; peer feedback present.
  • 1 pt — Attempt made but most questions are off-target or missing answers; peer feedback present but superficial.
  • 0 pts — No post or no peer feedback by the stated deadlines (unless excused).
