Course Overview
This course focuses on introductory statistical techniques used in social science research. Topics include reliability, validity, measures of central tendency, variability, probability, and statistical techniques including t tests, ANOVA, chi-square, correlation, and regression.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Understand statistical concepts utilized in research within the social sciences
- Apply mathematical/statistical techniques for social science research
- Analyze and interpret data within the social sciences
- Identify appropriate statistical techniques for different research questions

The two lowest scores for quizzes, major takeaways, and participation activities will be dropped.

- Quizzes — Complete before each class; unlimited attempts within 20-minute time limit
- Major Takeaways — Submit 10 key points from readings before each class
- Labs — Hands-on application of statistical procedures using SPSS

- Exams — Two exams (midterm and final); notes and textbook allowed
Important Policies
Late Work
Late assignments lose 5% per day, up to 4 days. After 4 days, no credit. Exit tickets cannot be made up.
Academic Integrity
Plagiarism and cheating will result in a failing grade for the course. All work must be your own. Use of AI for quizzes and major takeaways undermines learning and is strongly discouraged.
